Athletes Don’t Struggle Because They Lack Talent
Most athletes struggle because of something deeper that they are carrying or battling against. Whether it is performance anxiety, fear of failure, lack of confidence, emotional reactions after mistakes, difficulty focusing under pressure, overhtinking during games, inconsistency in performance, or difficulty bouncing back after a setback, there’s ways to help. Physical training for strength, speed, and skills is important but it is the mental training that will determine how athletes perfore under pressure.
What makes Peregrine Rising Mental Performance different than other coaches and programs?
In one word, INVESTMENT. Coach Tyler cares about each athlete and he is passionate about the psychology of sport. He dedicated almost a decade between a masters and doctorate learning about the theories, processes, and neuroscience behind how the brain and body work and perform. He brings an academic perspective with real-world application as a prior athlete. He also has spent years in the research field studying how physical activity and mental health are related, he has extensive public speaking experience, and truly loves sport. Coach Tyler not only teaches the mental performance skills and theories, but he explains why it works to the athletes which creates greater buy-in and follow through which can be seen in their long-term performance. He uses two psychological frameworks in his coaching, Self-Determination Theory which has been shown to increase intrinsic motivation, internalization of new habits, and increases in perceptions of psychological well-being and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Theory to help athletes learn to acknowledge the cues their body is giving them while being flexible and able to continue performing.
